There are tons of maxims in the world of awakening and healing. "Be mindful," "Be compassionate," "Be calm," and so on.
I think these kinds of maxims that encourage us to be something can actually seem to work to a degree. But only through the effort of a [part](Parts) of us who now has an agenda to be that something. With that agenda often comes conflict between the part that's trying to be something and other parts with opposing goals (see: [[Polarization]]). These kinds of agendas also can lead us to becoming more deeply identified with the parts that are trying to be something.
The truth is that these efforts and conflicts aren't necessary, because [[Self]] already embodies the qualities that we're being told to generate. However, the burdened parts may be obscuring these qualities that are natural to us all: [[Burdened parts block access to Self]].
