[[Adyashanti]] has said that meditation "is making a commitment to something other than your restless mind."
When the mind is restless, I've found it can help to connect with the restless [[Parts]]. This can be as simple as acknowledging and thanking them for being here and trying to help. You can also ask them if they'd be okay with relaxing, stepping back, or giving space for now. When doing so, it can help to reassure them that you'll come back and hear them out later.
You can also do this at the start of a meditation by giving all your parts permission to rest and for now set aside any need to figure anything out or solve any problem. You let them know that for now, the only goal, if you can call it that, is to simply *be*. See: [[True meditation]]. However, parts may resist the prospect of setting aside their goals, and we should honor that too. See: [[Protectors have good reasons for their roles and beliefs, even when they're extreme, irrational, and wrong]].
