Plans are often driven by planning [[Parts]] that fear the unknown. ([[Burdened parts are afraid of the unknown]]). These parts are attempting to make the unknown known by fabricating an answer that brings an illusory sense of security. Parts may also become attached to planning because they see it as a means of getting others think think that you've got life figured out. And I'm sure there are some other ways burdened parts use planning that I'm not considering.
Plans can obviously be useful sometimes. But we'll suffer if parts of us are attached to them, because plans often won't come to fruition and these parts will resist this: [[Suffering is resistance to what is]].
We tend to greatly overestimate how often our plans will play out like we imagine them to, because we greatly underestimate how unpredictable the future is: [[The future is unpredictable]]. You don't know the opportunities, failures, people, and knowledge that you'll come across in the future that will (or at least should) change your plans.
And if parts of you are attached to your plans, they may obscure evidence that your plan isn't working. Or they may rationalize reasons for why the plan should be followed through regardless.
If you're on the path of healing and awakening, you should be especially skeptical of the reliability of your plans. Because plans are a reflection of our interests, values, wants, and knowledge, and [[Healing and awakening will change your interests, values, wants, and knowledge]]. (And often dramatically if you're early on the healing and awakening path.)
Plans can still be useful. But you want them to come from [[Self]], not burdened parts. If you're not sure if a plan is coming from a part, check for an agenda: [[If you have an agenda, you're blended with a part]]. You can also check if you feel attached to an outcome: [[Self has preferences, but it doesn't mind what happens]].
I find my life feels more aligned with my true Self when I allow life to unfold. I try things, I learn, I find out more about what I like and don't, and I make adjustments so that I'm doing more of what I like. (See: https://www.henrikkarlsson.xyz/p/unfolding.) I also let [[Self]] steer this process: [[Parts aren't actually steering the ship]].
